BUD/S, which stands for Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL, is an intensive training program conducted by the United States Navy to select and train candidates for the Navy SEALs. BUD/S is considered one of the toughest military training programs in the world.

The purpose of BUD/S is to assess and develop the physical and mental capabilities of prospective Navy SEALs. It is a 24-week course divided into three phases:

First Phase (Basic Conditioning): This phase focuses on physical conditioning, water competency, and teamwork. Trainees undergo extensive physical training, including running, swimming, and calisthenics. They also learn basic combat diving techniques and perform various water confidence exercises.

Second Phase (Diving): This phase introduces trainees to combat diving skills and equipment. They learn open-circuit diving techniques, underwater navigation, and small boat handling.

Third Phase (Land Warfare): This phase focuses on land-based skills such as weapons training, land navigation, and small-unit tactics. Trainees undergo rigorous physical and mental challenges in simulated combat situations.

Throughout BUD/S, candidates are pushed to their limits to test their endurance, mental resilience, and ability to perform under extreme conditions. The training includes constant physical exertion, sleep deprivation, and demanding team exercises designed to build teamwork and camaraderie.

Successful completion of BUD/S is followed by additional training, including the SEAL Qualification Training (SQT), where candidates receive specialized instruction in various skills required for Special Operations missions.
